Travel Talent Scout today is proud to publish its first Travel Industry Salary Guide—a look at who is paying what in travel, along with what benefits are being offered, and generally, what it takes to get the best talent in the industry.
Before we get to it, a few notes on the data:
• All of the data comes from Travel Talent Scout postings since April—totaling 273 job openings that our team vetted and published in our weekly newsletter. That means what you see below is what we have gathered, and doesn’t account for every single job opening from every single company in travel. The more data we gather, the more comprehensive this data set will be in the future.
• What we typically look for are roles in sales, marketing, communications, PR, and operations. There are some specialized roles, but for the most part, we look for roles available and relevant to the larger pool of talent in travel.
• All currency is converted to USD based on current rates.
• What we’re showing below are listed salary ranges. Many companies volunteer what they pay, and others are forced to by state transparency laws (like in California, New York, or Colorado).
• Any role featured without a listed salary is excluded. We will continue pushing companies to be transparent with their pay when hiring.
• Level and function breakdowns below cover 263 roles; 10 roles are not in those tables because their postings did not state a currency (9) or listed a per-tour rate rather than an annual salary (1).
• Medians below are medians of role midpoints — the middle of each role's published pay range — not the low–high range medians.
We plan on publishing this data quarterly, so look out for the next set towards the end of the year or beginning of next.
The Big Picture
Dataset snapshot:
Total vetted roles analyzed: 273 roles (Apr–Oct 2026)
Industry median base compensation: $108,000 USD
Industry mean base compensation: $118,522 USD
Top paying sector: Executive & General Management
Highest volume function: Sales & Business Development (29%)
Across all 273 vetted listings, the median midpoint compensation in travel stands at $108,000 USD. Base pay across the industry ranges from specialized entry-level roles ($36,400) up to executive leadership positions ($350,000).
What Roles Pay the Most?

Seniority remains the primary driver of base compensation across hospitality, tour operators, travel tech, and agencies. Going from from Manager to Director yields the largest relative percentage jump in baseline earnings (+36%).
What role you perform also matters. Sales & Business Development generates the highest overall job posting volume in our newsletter, but Marketing & Communications and Operations & Strategy positions carry higher base salary medians. Those sales and BDM roles, however, are more likely than not to include bonuses and commissions that drive the overall salaries higher.

What Companies Pay the Most?
Top compensation in our dataset clusters across three core pillars: Travel Tech & Fintech, Aviation & Fleet Leadership, and Luxury Hospitality / Tour Operators.
The Top 10 Highest-Paying Roles Listed in 2026 (So Far):
Grand Circle Corp — EVP, Global Travel Ops — $325,000 midpoint
Walt Disney Company — Pilot Captain (Aviation Group) — $290,150 midpoint
TTC Tour Brands — SVP Sales, North America — $245,000 midpoint
Capital One — Sr Product Manager, Travel — $234,450 midpoint
Hilton — Exec Director, Biz Travel Sales — $230,000 midpoint

Auberge Resorts — Sr Dir, Digital Product & Exp — $225,000 midpoint
Expedia Group — Director, Business Development — $223,250 midpoint
Fora — Director, SEO/GEO — $220,000 midpoint
A more useful comparison is probably the differences in pay for Business Development Manager openings, or BDMs. BDM is the most common role title in the guide. Across those with published USD pay, the average midpoint salary is $83,100 (median $82,500), with ranges spanning $60,000 to $125,000.
Again, all of these BDM roles usually involve bonuses and commissions, these are just the base, listed salaries.

What Cities Have the Best Pay?
New York Metro / NYC ($135,000 median midpoint; 79 roles) leads the country, driven by high concentrations of executive, luxury operations, and travel fintech roles at companies like Capital One, Hilton, and Chase.
California & West Coast ($122,500 median midpoint; 35 roles) commands strong midpoints anchored by high-end entertainment aviation, luxury tour operators, and corporate travel operations (e.g., Disney Aviation, TTC Tour Brands).
Fully Remote ($93,600 median midpoint; 82 roles) offers a wide distribution where entry-level coordination roles pull down the median, though top-tier travel tech, marketing leads, and regional distribution roles easily scale past $175,000.
Midwest ($115,900 median midpoint; 30 roles) punches above its weight due to major airline hub operations in Chicago (United Airlines) and regional tourism/corporate headquarters.
Boston / New England ($85,000 median midpoint; 15 roles) is anchored heavily by major educational travel and tour operator giants, including Grand Circle Corporation, which holds the dataset's single highest base salary ($325,000 midpoint).
Benefits & What It Takes to Win Top Talent
Beyond base salary, winning the best talent in travel comes down to total rewards:
Travel Perks & Allowances: Tour operators (Intrepid, TTC, Lindblad) and luxury travel agencies emphasize FAM trips, heavily discounted personal travel, and annual travel stipends as core selling points.
The Tech/Fintech Premium: Companies like Capital One, Chase Travel Group, and Hopper tend to pay above traditional travel agency bands for similar product, strategy, and tech titles, often combining base pay with equity/stock options.
Remote & Hybrid Flexibility: Roles offering location flexibility tend to draw strong applicant interest in our newsletter features compared with strictly on-site property roles.
There are also a host of unique perks that travel companies can offer to attract the top talent. Here’s a taste:
"Product Testing" Travel Stipends & FAM Travel: Tour operators like Intrepid Travel, Lindblad Expeditions, and TTC Tour Brands offer employees heavily subsidized or fully comped multi-week expedition trips each year. The pitch? You can't sell or market the world unless you're actively exploring it.
AI & Automation Innovation Budgets: Travel platforms like Tern and Fora explicitly highlight AI-native workflows and offer personal tool budgets or tech stipends for employees building custom AI agents, scripts, and workflows.
100% Employer-Covered Health Tiers: While many corporate brands offer standard group health plans, select tech-forward travel platforms (e.g., Fora HQ) explicitly offer at least one healthcare plan option fully funded (100% covered) by the company.
Wellhub & All-Access Fitness Memberships: Modern travel startups are replacing traditional wellness perks with flexible Wellhub (Gympass) premium memberships, covering everything from fitness centers to personal coaching apps.
Aviation & Fleet Pass Privileges: Specialty flight roles—such as The Walt Disney Company Aviation Group—offer unique flight privileges, private charter repositioning perks, and global companion travel passes that far surpass standard commercial standby perks.
